Thesis writing is killing me. So having an ‘artistic’ break.
In a breadth subject at university, I chose to do cinema studies and we touched on character prototypes – one of which I found interesting was the ‘manic pixie dream girl’
Exist solely in the fevered imaginations of sensitive writer-directors to teach broodingly soulful young men to embrace life and its infinite mysteries and adventures.
Pretty sure I may have some manic pixie dream girl genes tbh. Not actually manic and not solely existing for any man/human but I do resonate with trying to the find good in complicated souls and try to open people’s minds to the exciting and meaningful parts of life while also not taking things too seriously – and this is applicable to all people I interact with.
An example of manic pixie dream girls in films, respectively, include:
- Diane Keaton – Annie Hall
- Kate Hudson- Almost famous
- Kirsten Dunst – Elizabethtown
- Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey- I Origins (incred film, will write something about it in future)
- Natalie Portman- Garden State
- Cara Delavigne – Papertowns
Out of these – watch Annie Hall, I origins and Garden State. Don’t waste your time on Papertowns but Cara is a babe.
